The most recent treaty with the city had been worked out in 1428, by which Tournai was to pay the Duke of Burgundy 73,500 crowns in exchange for continued independence (or more precisely, to avoid a forcible attempt to press Philip's claim over the city). This payment was good for six years. (see: Vaughan's "Philip the Good", pp. 18-19).
